So you can read thoughts and bend spoons and now all of a sudden you think you got what it takes to be a Psychic type Gym Leader? Psychic Pokémon have a wide range of possibilities in Gym Leader Challenge, boasting Energy acceleration, Ability lock, draw power, Bench protection and more. They also have access to arguably the best spread game in all of Gym Leader challenge with multiple Pokémon that place damage counters with attacks and Abilities. Psychic is one of the more difficult types to play, with many intricate combos that can pulled off, making it a popular choice for top Pokémon TCG players.

Support Pokémon

Psychic has great Ability lock options with access to both Wobbuffet (Phantom Forces) and Garbodor (Breakpoint). It also has great energy acceleration options thanks to Malamar (Forbidden Light) and Xatu (Paradox Rift). And you know the Gardevoir line is one of the Pokémon Company’s favorites! Gardevoir (Chilling Reign), Gallade (Astral Radiance) and Kirlia (Silver Tempest) are all popular inclusions in Psychic builds for their great consistency boosting Abilities. The issue with Psychic decks is never that there aren’t enough good cards to choose from, but that there are just too many to fit in a 60 card deck!

Attackers

Psychic has it all: OHKO potential, spread damage, disruption, its all here. Perhaps most interesting has been the resurgence of Giratina’s (Lost Thunder) relevance in GLC. It’s Distortion Door Ability is one of the most unique in the format, allowing Giratina to continuously return from the discard pile while placing damage counters on opposing Benched Pokémon. Its Shadow Impact attack does a modest 130 damage while placing 4 damage counters on one of your own Pokémon. Historically, the 4 damage counters was seen as a drawback. BUT, with the release of Munkidori (Twilight Masquerade), Shadow Impact has become a crucial way to place damage on your own board so that you can move them to the opponent’s Pokémon with Adrena Brain! Blacephalon’s (Cosmic Eclipse) Fireworks Bomb attack is undeniably strong, placing 12 damage counters on the opponent’s board if they have 3 Prizes remaining. But that Fireworks bomb is even more devastating if you have been softening the opponent’s Pokémon with Distortion Door and Adrena Brain throughout the game already.
